The Toowoomba Hospice was built at a cost of $1.2 million and provides six beds to people in their final stages of life.
Modeled on the Ipswich Hospice, the Toowoomba Hospice has been designed to provide a home-like and private atmosphere for clients, friends and families.
The building stands as a witness to the community's respect for the sacredness of human life, for its concern for those very vulnerable people who need loving care and support through perhaps the most difficult phase of their lives.
The building was constructed with three interconnecting sections: administration, services section and the client suites. Administration houses offices space, the board room and the prayer room. The services section includes the kitchen and dining area, laundry facility, therapy room and a family suite. The client suites are all large and are all slightly different to accommodate different clients needs, but all have their own bathroom and all enjoy plenty of natural light. Each suite is equipped with reverse-cycle air-conditioning specialized beds and equipment, however there is no obvious sign of medical equipment. The privacy and comfort of clients and visitors are of paramount concern to the whole facility.
